Coaching provides a multitude of
benefits, and this is particularly so for adults with AD/HD (ADD).
If you have AD/HD (ADD) or exhibit some of the traits, it is likely that
more attention has been placed on what is different about you, what is
"wrong" rather than what your strengths and talents are,
"who" you are and what is "right" about you. As
your AD/HD (ADD) coach I see your brilliance even when you can not! I
place the focus on the strengths and talents that are unique to you and
only you. I also coach you to better manage the challenges you are
confronted with.
Some of what you can expect
from my AD/HD coaching:
- Increase your knowledge of the
neuro-biological nature of your AD/HD (ADD) and the challenges
specific to your AD/HD (ADD) so you will better understand your
challenges.
- Differentiate the challenges
that are a result of the AD/HD (ADD) brain wiring versus those that
stem from negative belief systems and behavior patterns so you can
target the things that can be changed and better manage those that
can not.
- Establish systems that remind
you to take your medications properly and/or include proper exercise
and diet in your lifestyle. Learn to communicate more
effectively with your doctor.
- Focus on your unique talents
and strengths and develop structures to direct those talents and
strengths in a way that works for you instead of against you.
- Pinpoint topics and activities
that are of interest to you and that increase your ability to focus
and be productive.
- Develop methods and strategies
to better manage the various AD/HD (ADD) challenges such as time
management, organization, etc.
- Identify your
learning/processing styles and incorporate those styles in your
daily life to enhance your learning and performance on the job and
at home.
- Notice where you place your
focus so you can learn to switch from negative self-talk to positive
thoughts that empower you.
Consider the following:
What type of
training and knowledge specific to AD/HD (ADD) does the coach have?
This is important because although you may hire a masterful coach, if
the coach is not familiar with the workings of the AD/HD (ADD) mind, the
coach will not be able to understand what you are dealing with and the
coaching will be less effective and may possibly set you back some.
How much does
the coach understand the experiences of the person with AD/HD (ADD)?
It isn't absolutely necessary that your coach have AD/HD (ADD) however,
it may be an added benefit to you. Sometimes knowing that someone
has "been there, done that" can help you feel that you really
aren't alone in your experiences.
Do you feel
comfortable with the coach? Are you confident in his/her
abilities? Do you trust his/her integrity?
The coach/client relationship is a personal and confidential one so it
is important to feel the right fit with the coach you hire. The
more you can trust your coach, the more open and honest you will be and
therefore the more you will gain from the coaching.
What is the
coach's philosophy and style of coaching?
Since coaching is about you, what you want, what works best for you and
what will move you toward your best life, it is vital that your coach's
philosophy and style resonate with you!
